Recall Alert! IKEA Wall-Mounted Lamps

Reposted from thebump.com

Today, the CPSC, in cooperation with IKEA, announced a voluntary recall on more than 4 million children’s wall-mounted lamps. The lamps are being recalled due to a strangulation hazard. One 16-month-old child passed away in his crib because he was entangled in the lamp’s cord. Another incident, involving a 15-month-old who was entangled, was also reported, however, that child is fine. Officials noted that in both incidents, the lamp cord was pulled into the crib by accident.
2.3 million of the recalled lamps were sold in the US and 1.1 were sold in Canada. In total, there were more than 23 million lamps sold worldwide.
Think you have the lamps? Here’s what to look for:
The recalled IKEA models are SMILA-series wall-mounted lamps — and they’re sold in eight different designs, including a blue star, yellow moon, pink flower, white flower, red heart, green bug, orange seahorse and blue seashell.  The following model numbers can be found on each:
Blue Star: STJÄRNA model with article numbers 501.944.49 or 500.108.79.
Yellow Moon: MÅNE model with article numbers 701.944.48 or 700.108.40.
Pink Flower: BLOMMA model with article numbers 901.944.47 or 000.979.50.
White Flower: BLOMMA model with article number 300-746-50.
Red Heart: HJÄRTA model with article numbers 202.256.59 or 801.993.13.
Green Bug: BAGGE model with article numbers 101.944.46 or 700.728.71.
Blue Seashell: SNÄCKA model with article number 400-982-50.
Orange Seahorse: SJÖHÄST model with article number 900-982-43.
On every model, the model name is printed on a label on the inside back of the lamp (near the light bulb). The article number can be found printed on the lamp’s packaging. They were sold exclusively at IKEA stores nationwide, in IKEA catalog’s and online from July 1999 through May 2013, for anywhere between $10 and $13.
What do to if you own the recalled model:
Stop using the lamp immediately and contact IKEA for a free repair kit (which includes self-adhesive fasteners for attaching the lamp’s cord to the wall as well as safety instructions). You can contact IKEA at (888) 966-4532 or by checking online for more information on the latest recalls.

Kim Zolciak Shows Off Slim Post-Baby Body, Is Back to a Size 4 Nine Days After Giving Birth!

DECEMBER 4, 2013 AT 6:10PM

Kim Zolciak didn't bounce back into shape after giving birth to twins on Nov. 25 -- she rocketed back. It's been just nine days since the former Real Housewives of Atlanta star welcomed a baby boy and baby girl with husband Kroy Biermann, but looking at her now, you'd never guess she was ever even pregnant.
On Wednesday, Dec. 4, the 35-year-old mom of six showed off her slim post-baby body in a selfie sent to her daughter Brielle, 16. "My belly is almost gone!!!" she wrote before sending the pic, which shows her standing in front of a mirror in a low-cut black tank top and black pants. "Damn u got good genes! Ur lucky."
Brielle then tweeted a screen-grab of the exchange, to which her mom jokingly replied, "U wud post my texts." A little while later, the teen shared another photo of Zolciak's already slimmed-down figure. "HOW," Brielle captioned the shot, which her mom retweeted.
Indeed, the reality star seems to have dropped her pregnancy weight in record time. "How is my mom a size 4...it's been 9 days since she gave birth to twins," Brielle tweeted late on Dec. 3.
As previously reported, Zolciak and her husband welcomed twins Kaia and Kane on Nov. 25. "We are officially the 'Biermann Bunch' now!" she announced via Instagram. "Guess what?!!! The twins have arrived! We welcomed first a baby girl and second a handsome little boy! They are both healthy and Kroy and I are so thankful!!"
Married since November 2011, the couple are already parents to sons KJ, 2, and Kash, 12 months. Brielle is Zolciak's daughter from a previous relationship; she's also mom to daughter Ariana, 12.

Ok....So......

Ok guys. I know I have been majorly negligent of my blog lately and im so sorry. you guys know that point where you feel like something is so bad/unfixable/far gone that it wont even matter if you try to fix it?? Yeah, thats where me and my blog have been.

Its just hard to be a new, small business owner.  learning the ins and outs as you go, trying to jugle time between the too much that was already on your plate and a new project, and then the defeat of not getting the response you want from "the world".

Its been a tough couple months.  But ive decided that Ive already put too much work and effort into this thing and Im going to keep moving forward!

So, with that being said, Ill be sprucing up the blog a bit and adding some new categories.  Hopefully this will also help streamline the blog with the social networking sites (ad take some pressure off of me to write!!)

So i hope you guys like it! Let me know if you have any feedback, comments or suggestions!!!

And remember:

"We are so blessed and grateful to God for this newest gift to our family," Fields and Morgan said in a statement.
Fields took to Twitter this morning to share the big baby news with fans. "Praise the Lord Quincy is here! 8 lbs. 8 oz. 20 inches long we are all doing great thank you for your love prayers and support!" she wrote.
The couple already has 6-year-old son Sebastian, who was born back in May 2007.

Congrats to the happy family of four!

What the heck is Indiegogo?

I've just recently learned about 'crowdfunding'.  If you're unfamiliar (as I was), here's a definition:

"Crowdfunding (alternately crowd financingequity crowdfundingcrowd-sourced
fundraisingis the collective effort of individuals who network and pool their money, usually
via the Internetto support efforts initiated by other people or organizations" Wikipedia

Sounds cool right?! But I didnt think it could apply to me.  And who would just GIVE me money for this dream of mine anyway?? But the more I looked, the more businesses and startups I saw that use it.  You pretty much are pitching your business/service/product to the world! You set a funding goal, and wait for some kind souls to donate to you.

So I read a little further, and I see I saw that even FAMOUS people use crowdfunding!!! (And we just love doing what the rich and famous do, don't we?)  For example, Spike Lee used popular crowdfunding site Kickstarter to raise $1M for a new movie! And the ridiculously handsome James Franco raised $320,000 to produce films based on his book on Indiegogo!!!

So after so research, I did decide to make a campaign on Indiegogo.  Its really great because you can pretty much set all your own parameters.  You choose your “funding goal” or how much money you want to ask for, you can offer your contributors perks like offers or samples and things of the like.  You can also set the contribution tiers.  For example, mine are $10, $15, $25, $50 and $100.  Indiegogo gives you all the templates to tell your story, upload pictures, and really capture your audience of potential contributors!!!

One thing the campaign does a good job of doing is offering a level of complete transparency.  They ask what your plans are for the money youre raising, and ask you to really share and sell yourself.  So you guys should check out my campaign! And if you feel so moved, feel free to donate!! Lol

Heres the link: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/from-the-same-cloth-childrens-resale/x/5079965

and heres a little badge to take you right to the campaign!

My sick toddler

So, I've been busy lately. Taking on a couple new extra curricular activities and catching up on some of my old ones. But the number one thing consuming my brain right now? MY SICK TODDLER

You know how you might be nervous about some things but there's that ONE THING you are absolutely terrified of? This is it for me. As a first time mom there's always sources of anxiety and opportunities for you to tell yourself "it'll be fine" or "lets just get this over with" (those awful appoinments that require multiple shots), but I've never been able to ease my mind at the thought of an infant/toddler with a cold.

And let me tell you, my boy has the cold of all colds.  Collectively my household has been sick for two weeks. But my baby for just one.  It started with crusty eyes and a little nose running-signs his allergies were bothering him, but nothing for mom to panic over. Then suddenly I was sick. Like stayed home from work, congested, stuffy/runny nose, chills exhausted,  sick. Over the course of that day home I started to feel better but baby got worse. By the evening he was coughing, and had a runny nose. And the cough just got worse and worse.

Eventually my sweet boy was coughing so hard he'd have to stop walking or playing to wait for the fit to be over. And when it was he'd give the most pitiful whine. Naturally I was devastated.

So, you moms out there, what are your go to home remedies for your sick children? I tried the vaporub on the feet although Im not certain of how effective it was becaise he was also getting a cough suppressant. I also used his cold vapor humidifier, but I've never found that thing to work. Right now we're six days in and on a regular daytime cough and cold medicine schedule that seems to be working but that's about it.
On the up side though,  he's kept his normal demeanor.  Hes fast, active and has lots to say so I'm glad that hasn't changed. But we have GOT to get him healthy. What do you suggest?

We got a facelift!

You may (or may not lol) have noticed that the website was down for maintenance this past weekend. I was busy making some much needed adjustments and adding a little flair!

Also we've recently opened up to product hosting. Essentially,  if someone has goods or services that they offer and are in line with From the Same Cloth (ie. Children/family related, affordable, adorable lol) then we will partner with them and advertise on the site! This is especially great for people who do handmade crafts as a hobby or only in their spare time and don't want the hassle of posting/advertising/selling on their own. From the Same Cloth will post, advertise and process orders for you.

The site is back up and running so take a look and let me know what you think! I'd really appreciate the feedback! And if you know of anyone who might be interested in having their products hosted, send them our way!

What do you think of CURB ALERTS??

So today, I left work to get lunch. As I was driving back, I passed a really cute Toddler Booster seat with an awesome pink cover and a few other baby items.....ON THE CURB. Naturally my first instinct was "omg I gotta get it!" but then as I slowed down (so much so that I probably looked like some sort of creep lol) I started to think...should I pick up things off the curb??

I mean, I've seen plenty of perfectly good things I don't need put out on someone's curb. And I've even put things on my own with the thought that "hopefully someone can use it and get it before the trash man comes".

In the end, I ended up not grabbing the car seat because I've always read that car seats are one thing you should take great care in choosing and to at least get them from someone/where that you know it'll still be in good working order. What  if something was wrong with that seat and I had no idea?? Can you spell lawsuit? B-R-O-K-E! lol

And besides that, here are a couple of things i never even thought of!!

Here's an excerpt of a post I found from a site called Freecycle.org.:

"Curb alerts", "at curb", "first-come first-served" or similar posts are not allowed

We STRONGLY suggest speaking to the previous owner though, as there may be safety concerns that you may not know about (i.e. a child's car seat could have been in an accident, rendering it unsafe even if there is no visible damage, the item could be soiled by pets, etc.).
In one town, the police were called when Freecycle members descended to pick up items on the sidewalk outside a warehouse. The site was being cleaned and the items were placed outside temporarily. Some well-meaning person spotted them and posted to the local Freecycle group. Items were taken before the police arrived.

Additionally, sometimes people are evicted from their residence and everything they own is thrown out on the curb. Before they can come back with any sort of vehicle to collect their belongings, people have picked through their clothing, furniture, and keepsakes. Not a pretty scene! And definitely not in the spirit of Freecycle.

OMG can you imagine!?!?!

So, when it comes to baby/children's items, what do you think of "curb alerts"?

And just for the sake of hilarity:

Why shop retail when you can shop RESALE!!!!

Have you ever thought about the Carbon footprint of your clothing? The large factory it gets manufactured in, the materials that are used, the thousands of identical pieces that are also being made? Think of the manpower and fuel used just to get that product to your favorite local retailer.  Only to find itself sitting in the back of a closet being forgotten about. What a waste right??!

That's where resale shops can help.  While it may be your closet that brand new designer sweater or pair of jeans is sitting in, its not too late to help the environment and reduce the carbon footprint of that item. You can gather that and other items from your closet and take them to your local thrift store. You may even get some cash back for it! And who isn't a fan of that??

By donating or consigning your items, you're giving them a second chance at life! Maybe you just never got around to wearing that big name label blouse; someone is out there looking for one just like it! Or maybe your child just outgrew that adorable outfit after one wear.  There's a mom who's baby would look just as cute in it!

Many shops have fairly relaxed guidelines for the type of items they will take, as long as they are in decent condition for resale.  For some shops, this may only apply to a certain age group or price range though.  For example, we at From the Same Cloth only accept children's clothing and accessory donations.  However any items that don't fit those guidelines or are not in top resale condition, are still donated to our local crisis centers and homeless shelters.

And maybe you don't think you have anything you can part with just yet for a donation, but by shopping resale, you are helping to recycle clothing that would otherwise find its way to a landfill or incinerator.

So next time you're doing some "spring cleaning" keep your local resale shop in mind. Whether you're looking to clean out some space in those closets or to refill the space, your local thrift store can help with that.

Who I am

I think the new blog is a perfect place to tell you a little about who I am and where 'From the Same Cloth' came from. I am Kristen. A wife, mother and thrifty shopper. And that's where 'From the Same Cloth' came from: Thrifty Shopping.

Ive always been a person who loved a good deal. But only in the last few years have I begun to LOVE Thrift shopping. I mean, who wouldnt??? Items for less than $1?? shirts, skirts, and home goods for less than ten bucks?!?! You cant beat that.

When I found out I was pregnant, I was overwhelmed with the thought of all the new things I would get my little bean.  But as my bean grew, and we found out it would be a boy, I knew there was no way clothes would last. Suddenly ideas of dirt, grass stains, scrapes and bruises flooded my mind! There was no way I would be spending tons of money on new things!

And thus, my like for thrifting grew into a full blown love affair. I thrifted every chance I got and in just about every size. I knew that this kid was gonna grow fast and I wanted to be prepared. As it turns out, my (big) bean was so loved even before his arrival that he had tons of new, passed down and (mommy) thrifted clothes!

And now a year later, my new baby was born.  From the Same Cloth features clothes straight out of my son's closet.  My stock is composed largely of things we simply "didn't get to"; clothes that he was only able to wear once, clothes I never got anything to match with, and things he simply was too big for by the time it was found! lol

So now im passing these things on to you. In hopes that you'll find things your little one will love and can make memories in.

~Kristen

p.s a quick photo of the special man that made this all possible lol
