We got a facelift!

You may (or may not lol) have noticed that the website was down for maintenance this past weekend. I was busy making some much needed adjustments and adding a little flair!

Also we've recently opened up to product hosting. Essentially,  if someone has goods or services that they offer and are in line with From the Same Cloth (ie. Children/family related, affordable, adorable lol) then we will partner with them and advertise on the site! This is especially great for people who do handmade crafts as a hobby or only in their spare time and don't want the hassle of posting/advertising/selling on their own. From the Same Cloth will post, advertise and process orders for you.

The site is back up and running so take a look and let me know what you think! I'd really appreciate the feedback! And if you know of anyone who might be interested in having their products hosted, send them our way!

What do you think of CURB ALERTS??

So today, I left work to get lunch. As I was driving back, I passed a really cute Toddler Booster seat with an awesome pink cover and a few other baby items.....ON THE CURB. Naturally my first instinct was "omg I gotta get it!" but then as I slowed down (so much so that I probably looked like some sort of creep lol) I started to think...should I pick up things off the curb??

I mean, I've seen plenty of perfectly good things I don't need put out on someone's curb. And I've even put things on my own with the thought that "hopefully someone can use it and get it before the trash man comes".

In the end, I ended up not grabbing the car seat because I've always read that car seats are one thing you should take great care in choosing and to at least get them from someone/where that you know it'll still be in good working order. What  if something was wrong with that seat and I had no idea?? Can you spell lawsuit? B-R-O-K-E! lol

And besides that, here are a couple of things i never even thought of!!

Here's an excerpt of a post I found from a site called Freecycle.org.:

"Curb alerts", "at curb", "first-come first-served" or similar posts are not allowed

We STRONGLY suggest speaking to the previous owner though, as there may be safety concerns that you may not know about (i.e. a child's car seat could have been in an accident, rendering it unsafe even if there is no visible damage, the item could be soiled by pets, etc.).
In one town, the police were called when Freecycle members descended to pick up items on the sidewalk outside a warehouse. The site was being cleaned and the items were placed outside temporarily. Some well-meaning person spotted them and posted to the local Freecycle group. Items were taken before the police arrived.

Additionally, sometimes people are evicted from their residence and everything they own is thrown out on the curb. Before they can come back with any sort of vehicle to collect their belongings, people have picked through their clothing, furniture, and keepsakes. Not a pretty scene! And definitely not in the spirit of Freecycle.

OMG can you imagine!?!?!

So, when it comes to baby/children's items, what do you think of "curb alerts"?

And just for the sake of hilarity:

Why shop retail when you can shop RESALE!!!!

Have you ever thought about the Carbon footprint of your clothing? The large factory it gets manufactured in, the materials that are used, the thousands of identical pieces that are also being made? Think of the manpower and fuel used just to get that product to your favorite local retailer.  Only to find itself sitting in the back of a closet being forgotten about. What a waste right??!

That's where resale shops can help.  While it may be your closet that brand new designer sweater or pair of jeans is sitting in, its not too late to help the environment and reduce the carbon footprint of that item. You can gather that and other items from your closet and take them to your local thrift store. You may even get some cash back for it! And who isn't a fan of that??

By donating or consigning your items, you're giving them a second chance at life! Maybe you just never got around to wearing that big name label blouse; someone is out there looking for one just like it! Or maybe your child just outgrew that adorable outfit after one wear.  There's a mom who's baby would look just as cute in it!

Many shops have fairly relaxed guidelines for the type of items they will take, as long as they are in decent condition for resale.  For some shops, this may only apply to a certain age group or price range though.  For example, we at From the Same Cloth only accept children's clothing and accessory donations.  However any items that don't fit those guidelines or are not in top resale condition, are still donated to our local crisis centers and homeless shelters.

And maybe you don't think you have anything you can part with just yet for a donation, but by shopping resale, you are helping to recycle clothing that would otherwise find its way to a landfill or incinerator.

So next time you're doing some "spring cleaning" keep your local resale shop in mind. Whether you're looking to clean out some space in those closets or to refill the space, your local thrift store can help with that.
